Midiwood was born out of a simple idea, to create a sample library from our old 1913 family piano.
A Blüthner Style 6 grand piano left to me by my late mother.
This very intimate piano is also starting to show its age and I wanted to capture it before it became unplayable playable. I set out to sample this piano in as much detail as possible to create the closest digital replica that I possibly could.
This sampling project became a catharsis for me after the passing of my mother. It was the healing process. Art became the healer. My family will testify that I am a different person before and after this project.
I enjoyed the process so much that I decided to start Midiwood, as a space to create and release beautiful sample instruments. Virtual instruments that reflect our human nature. Instruments that help composers reach deep into what they do best, to create music that tells the stories of our beautiful, frightening, gargantuan and profoundly elusive human spirit.
